Chapter 47
Seeing Charles come in, Yolanda quickly slipped on her slippers and ran over to greet him. “Hi, Daddy.”
Charles bent down and gently touched her cheek. “Why aren’t you in bed yet?”
Yolanda said, “I was waiting for you, Daddy.”
Charles picked her up and carried her upstairs.
Yolanda wrapped her arms around his neck, sensing something was off. She whispered, “Daddy, what’s wrong? Are you upset?”
Charles was silent for a moment before asking, “Has your mommy called you at all?”
When Yolanda heard it, her head drooped. “Mommy hasn’t called me first in a long time. When I call her, she either doesn’t pick up, or if she does, she just says she’s busy.”
Hearing the disappointment in his daughter’s voice, Charles felt a strange ache in his chest. He just gave a quiet nod.
After carrying Yolanda back to her bedroom, Charles told her, “Yolanda, be a good girl and go to sleep.”
Yolanda blinked her big, round eyes and asked, “Daddy, if I’m good and go to sleep, will Mommy call me?”
Charles didn’t answer. He just stroked her cheek and said, “Go to sleep.”
Yolanda nodded. “Okay.”
It wasn’t until Yolanda was fast asleep that Charles finally got up and left the bedroom.
Back in the study, he stood by the floor–to–ceiling window for a long time. He couldn’t get the images from Jason’s phone out of his head.
Troy had always been a business rival of his. They’d clashed openly and behind the scenes more times than he could count.
There was probably only one person who could really give him a run for his money in the business world, and that was Troy.
But even knowing Troy was his sworn enemy, Teresa still chose to get involved with him.
Of course, Charles was pissed. Like it or not, she was still his wife.
The more he stewed, the madder he got. So he just grabbed his phone and called Teresa. The phone rang for what felt like forever before she finally picked up.
“Do you need something?” she said. She didn’t sound careful or happy like before–just cold and distant.
Charles didn’t beat around the bush. “What are you doing?”
Teresa clearly didn’t want to answer any unnecessary questions. “If you’ve got something to say, just say it.”
Charles paused for a second, then threw out a random excuse. “Yolanda said she wants your homemade soup for breakfast tomorrow.”
Teresa didn’t refuse. “Alright, I’ll give Sharon the recipe. She’ll make it for Yolanda once she wakes up.”
Charles narrowed his eyes, his angry face twisted in the reflection of the glass. His voice went cold. “That’s not the same, is it?”
Meanwhile, Teresa was sitting in the front passenger seat of Troy’s car, answering the call.
Troy leaned over, his gaze openly filled with affection for her. He smiled, lips pressed together, not bothering to hide how he felt.
He kept staring, and before he knew it, he was leaning in, taking a deep, deliberate breath of Teresa’s scent
Teresa sensed Troy getting closer and instinctively dodged to the side, only to bump her head against the car roof,
“Ugh, she let out a muffled groan of pain.
At the same time. Troy leaned all the way in, completely boxing Teresa into the tight space.
He didn’t say a word just reached up and gently

busy tone sounded in her ear.
Charles had hung up. To him, that little whimper from Teresa sounded exactly like the kind of noise people make when they’re making
out.
‘Figures, I just had to call at the worst possible moment, Charles thought to himself.
After Charles hung up, Teresa didn’t bother calling back. She looked at Troy’s face in the dim light and said, “Mr. Hamilton, please behave yourself.”
Troy didn’t back off. Instead, he gently lifted her chin with his hand, his deep eyes gazing into her shimmering ones. His voice was low and tempting, almost hooking her in. “What’s wrong? Don’t you like it?”
Teresa pushed him away. “I’m leaving.” She hurriedly reached for the door handle. ‘I never should’ve come here tonight, she thought to herself.
She knew Troy was trouble, but she still came anyway.
But Troy caught her hand and turned her to face him. “There’s a five–star hotel in town–super quiet. You could scream as loud as you want, and no one would hear a thing.”
Teresa’s face turned bright red, her ears burning She glared at Troy. “You’re shameless.”
Troy just chuckled. “Isn’t that thrilling? Are you sure you don’t want to try it with me?”
