There were some things she still wasn’t sure how to say.
She figured maybe she didn’t have to say them at all.
Eric asked, “What’s good about it?”
Alice smiled.
“I was thinking–since you gave me the land behind the hospital, could you draw up a design plan for me?”
Eric pressed his lips tight. “How are you gonna pay me?”
Alice shrugged. “You know I’m broke.”

Then, sounding tired, she added, “I can pay– does that work?”
Daniel, standing outside, caught the suggestive line.
He was stunned.
Mr. Eric has just started recovering and is still weak .
Isn’t Mrs. Nolan being way too pushy ?
And judging by Mr. Eric’s tone , he said no because of his health .
But Mrs. Nolan insisted on him “ giving it to her , ” even offering to pay.

Daniel wasn’t sure how to describe her recklessness, so he just gave her a warning look, as if saying, “Mr. Eric’s health is fragile; don’t push him too far.”
Alice got no answer and looked at Daniel through the window.
“Why are you standing there? Get in and drive.”
Daniel snapped out of it, glancing nervously at the sky.
“Well, Mrs. Nolan, I can go back to the hospital and chat a bit. You two can handle your stuff.”

“Get in and drive. I want to go home and lie down.”
