“I’ve discussed this with the experts overseas before. Her condition suggests long–term hospitalization- otherwise..
“If she left the hospital without our care, she might end up back here.
“The last time she was brought in, her life was hanging by a thread.
“Next time, who knows if she’ll make it.”
For the patient’s safety, Andy made this recommendation.
But he knew deep down that everyone’s finances were limited.
Emily came from an ordinary family. They couldn’t afford to keep her in the hospital forever.
So it was really frustrating, because this was a dead end.
After saying this, Andy noticed Alice.
He looked at her face and felt it was somewhat familiar.
But he didn’t think much of it.
“Dr. Murphy, you should go ahead and take care of your guests. We’ll head out first.”
Andy was the leader of this team. They were all top–notch experts.
So after seeing the patient, they still had to conduct research.
Jack nodded. “Alright, you should go ahead and get to work.”
With that, he stepped aside to let him pass ..
After Andy and the others left, Alice grabbed Jack’s arm.
“You and Eric, wait outside. I’ll go in and check on her myself.”
Jack shook his head.
“Emily’s in a really unstable state right now. She might hurt not only herself but others too.”
Alice smiled.
“So just because the patient’s in bad shape, we should ignore her?”
Jack was taken aback.
He was a doctor too, yet here he was saying something that awful.
He felt utterly ashamed.

“ How about I go in with you to help?”
“No need. Too many people might make it worse.
Alice opened the door and saw the room was pitch black, making her frown.
Emily’s situation might be worse than she thought.
Emma and Clayton had finished tidying up the equipment in the lab. They double–checked that all the switches were off before leaving
Clayton stretched lazily.
“I didn’t realize experiments were this exhausting. This project is really draining me.”
Emma shrugged.
“It can’t be helped. That’s academia for you.”
But then she thought of something and said quietly, “Your achievements abroad are already on par with some professors here. If you want, you could become an associate professor soon.
“After a while, you’d become a full–fledged professor.”
“If you made some major breakthrough later, you could even become a member of the academy.”
“That’s a really promising path ahead.”
“Why live like a hermit?”
Clayton laughed heartily, saying casually, “Maybe I had it too easy when I was young. Now it’s time to pay my dues.”
Emma said nothing further.
But she really admired Clayton.
After all, even if he didn’t try, he could live comfortably off his parents forever.
He could even squander it all and still not run out of money.
“Clayton!”
Sandy, dressed in volunteer clothes, stood not far away, waving at him.
This place wasn’t somewhere just anyone could enter.
So that door over there was as far as Sandy could go.
Alice had tested it before. At that spot, you couldn’t spy on anything inside the lab.
Emma had always kept her distance from Sandy.

First, she knew Alice and Sandy didn’t get along.
Second, Sandy was two–faced. She was nice on the surface but scheming behind your back, making he hard to deal with.
Third, she just wanted to focus on research and make Alice happy. She didn’t want to think about anything
else.
So she spoke up right away.
“Your friend’s here–I’ll head out first.”
Clayton immediately grabbed her. “Where are you going?”
Emma froze and looked down.
She saw he was holding her hand.
Her heart raced instantly, and her face turned red.
“You, you–let go first.”
Only then did Clayton realize he’d gone too far, and he quickly released her hand.
He said awkwardly, “I just wanted to ask, I… uh, I… oh man, no, I … sorry.”
He really didn’t know what to say, so he just apologized right away.
Emma had been a bit annoyed at first.
She thought he was being too forward.
But seeing him so nervous and embarrassed actually made her laugh.
“Fine. I’ll let it slide this time. Just don’t do it again.”
Clayton finally relaxed and smiled.
“I was just nervous. If you left, I’d be scared that woman would eat me alive.”
Emma was shocked.
Clayton said it very seriously.
“She freaks me out. It’s like she’s all/surface–no real emotions, just acting. You’ve got my back, right?”
From afar, Sandy saw this scene, and sparks of anger flashed in her eyes.
This Emma !
How dare she go after her guy !
Before, she hadn’t claimed Clayton as hers.
She hadn’t been this mad.
