Just as Alice finished speaking, the man lying unconscious suddenly opened his eyes and began coughing violently.
Sandy froze on the spot, completely stunned.
He… he actually woke up? Her apology actually worked like a charm?
Alice let out a quiet, mocking laugh and turned her gaze to Ruby.
“Looks like you don’t need to look far for the culprit. She’s standing right in front of you.”
Ruby’s expression changed rapidly.
Sandy stood there, flustered and completely lost. She’d never been so humiliated in her life.
Eric sneered coldly and warned, “I’ll be telling the police to investigate this as attempted. murder.
Sandy’s eyes widened in shock.
She protested with a tone of hurt, “What?! Eric, I swear I didn’t do anything!”
Eric’s expression remained cold and unmoved. “Then save that story for the police. You don’t need to waste your breath on me.”
Sandy could only stand there.
Ruby knew this couldn’t continue. If things stayed this tense, it would only and Sandy.

“Eric, since you’re awake and doing better, maybe you should return to work soon. The design department’s got a competition coming up–they need you.”
She was clearly offering power in exchange for her daughter’s safety.
Alice scoffed silently. To her, this house reeked of backroom deals and shameless trades.
If everyone else played dirty, why shouldn’t she?
With a half–smile, she said, “Did you forget about me, Mrs. Nolan?”

She was Eric’s wife now. Naturally, she had a place in the company.
Not that she cared much for the paycheck..
She just loved watching Ruby’s expression twist in frustration.
Ruby nearly bit through her lip.

But with Sandy’s future on the line, she had no choice but to compromise.
“I don’t know what you’re interested in. Why don’t you start by training in the IT department?”
Alice raised an eyebrow. “Just training?”
Ruby felt her blood pressure spike. She was practically wheezing.
“Coincidentally,” Ruby said through tight lips, “the Deputy Director of IT just left. I haven’t filled the position yet. Why don’t you take it over?”
She figured that a country girl like Alice knew nothing about technology.
The deputy director position would send her straight to the top–and then straight back down when she inevitably failed.
Thisposition ….
Alice, ever the ‘country girl,” turned to her husband.
“What do you think? Is this position right for me?”
Eric twitched slightly at the question.
Did it even matter what he thought? If she wanted it, she’d take it anyway.
But since she asked, that meant she wanted it.
“Yeah.”
Still, he gave her a nonchalant nod. “It’ll do.”
Ruby nearly choked on this.

She was absolutely fuming.
And yet, that ridiculous couple sat
There with the same smug faces, like they risked their lives for this and somehow they were the ones getting shortchanged.
Her chest tightened. She could barely breathe, fury burning through her ribs.
Seeing that her goal was met, Alice casually placed her hands on Eric’s wheelch
ready to leave.

They’d already gone over the accident in detail–unfortunately, there wasn’t enough evidence to send Sandy to jail.
But that didn’t mean she couldn’t get her revenge in other ways.
Just as they reached the courtyard, four large Chow Chows appeared at the gate, blocking their path.
Sandy and Ruby were standing at the door, watching.
“Mom, did you call them?” Sandy asked.
Ruby shook her head slowly. “Looks like someone else wants them dead.”
Sandy’s eyes lit up with a gleam of excitement.
“These look like the branch family’s dogs. But knowing them, someone must’ve used them .”
Ruby let out a cold sneer and raised her voice, loud and proud.
Chow Chows are fiercely loyal. And they know who the real master of this house is.”
The message was clear.
Alice had gone too far. The dogs weren’t here by coincidence–they were defenders of the family honor.
When their masters were being bullied, the dogs would step in for sure.
Alice didn’t have the patience to play word games with this mother–daughter duo.

The four Chow Chows in front of them looked more like lions than dogs, their eyes sharp, their muscles tense.
One of the dogs stepped forward and let out a low, guttural growl.
Its fangs glinted in the sunlight. It was terrifying.
Alice cracked her knuckles. “Should I handle this, or do you want to?”
Eric sat in his wheelchair, pale and weak. Those dogs could flatten him with a single swipe.
So, really, what was he going to do?
Before he could respond, Alice was already striding forward.
Eric was speechless. So she was just teasing him a second ago ?
His face turned grim.
As Alice approached, the four Chow Chows growled again, warning her to stay back.
But she just smiled, not the least bit afraid.
Sandy’s hands clenched as she watched and swallowed repeatedly.
“Mom, what if she truly shatters apart?”
Ruby patted her on the shoulder gently. “It’ll be bloody. You don’t need to see this.”
“I want to see it. She’s so smug–this is precisely what she deserves.”
Sandy might’ve looked innocent, but her eyes gleamed with something dark. In her heart, she was praying those dogs would rip Alice to shreds.
