Kaleb still looked uneasy.
“But she’s Boston’s sister. If she has a good deal, she’d probably give it to him first.”
Levi gave a calm smile, thinking back to how Boston had acted earlier. “Let’s just wait it out.”
Inside the car, Eric sat quietly, his hands resting over his stomach.
After a moment, he asked, “You met with Risa?”
Alice didn’t bother hiding anything.
Since their very first encounter, and when she helped him, she figured he’d already started suspecting who she was.
So, there was no point in lying.
“Yes, she’s my best friend.”
Daniel blurted out, “Seriously?”
Alice glanced at him.
“Sorry, Mrs. Nolan, I didn’t mean to cut in,” Daniel said, realizing he’d spoken out of turn and looked kind of awkward.
She smiled slightly and didn’t seem bothered. She asked curiously, “You know Risa?”
Daniel tried to keep it together while driving, but his voice still shook a bit.
“Risa’s a total icon in the film world.
“She blew up with her debut and swept all the major awards.
“Every single movie she’s done since has become a classic. They even use her stuff to teach in film schools.
“But what stands out is how good she is at picking talent. She’s got this insane knack for choosing just the right actors every time.
“You wouldn’t believe how many celebrities in Drakoria dream about working with her.
“But for the last few years, she kept saying she was too busy to show up here, so everyone had to fly overseas to chase her down.
“This year is different, though. She’s finally doing a myth–based movie using our legends, and the industry is in an uproar.”

He stopped mid–sentence, realizing he was saying too much, and quickly shut up.
Eric cut in, calm but firm. “No need for your friend to get tied up with our company.”
Alice knew Levi was a threat to the Nolan Group.
If he blew up, it’d only wreck the Nolan Group. It had nothing to do with her.
She’d always stayed out of it.
And honestly, the whole thing had already stirred up chaos back at the old mansion. None of the branches wanted to fund anything, but they all expected results.
She had a feeling today’s visit was gonna be about that mess again.
She just didn’t know what tricks Irene would pull to drag her in.
When the car rolled up to the mansion, Henry rushed over and opened the door for Alice.
“Mrs. Nolan, please be careful. Someone important is here–best not to tick her off.”
If Henry said that, whoever it was had to be a major player in Mapleford.
“Who is it?” Alice asked, now curious.
Henry quickly explained, “It’s Yvette, the eldest daughter of the Martinezes. Right now, they’re the Nolans‘ top business partner. While Mr. Eric was in a coma, they were the ones holding things together.”
He dropped his voice. “Back when Mr. Eric was still doing well, Irene tried to end the engagement with the Spencers and set him up with Yvette instead. Everything was already arranged.
“But then, the accident happened. With his health going downhill, the Martinezes pulled the plug. You…”
Alice caught on fast. So Yvette was her love rival.
She glanced at Eric with a meaningful smile. “Is she your first love?”
Eric looked down, casually fixing his cufflinks.
He chuckled a little. “I was in a coma for three years. Did she appear in my dreams?”
Alice clicked her tongue. “But she was around before your accident.
“If a guy sees a pretty girl before bed, of course, his dreams will be sweet. Maybe that’s why you to wake up.”

He glanced over at her. “Does that bug you?”
She froze for a second, then shook her head. “Nope.”

Without another word, he turned and walked off, not even bothering to clear up what went on between him and Yvette.
As Alice stepped into the mansion, a woman in a fancy designer outfit walked over and greeted her, “Hello.”
That had to be Yvette. And to be honest, she was stunning.
She had perfect features, brows with a hint of foreign flair, and eyes that drew attention. She gave off a delicate vibe.
Her voice was soft and gentle, and the little lift at the end of her sentences made her sound sweet.
If Alice were a man, she’d probably be into that kind of quiet, elegant type.
“Hello,” Alice replied, keeping her smile cool and composed.
But something didn’t sit right. Despite how soft and harmless Yvette looked, there was something cold and sharp hiding underneath.
