Chapter 160
Selene POV
I thought I wouldn’t be bothered if I saw Brooke coming out of Noah’s room but for the last ten minutes, it was all I could think of. More especially, why had Noah lied to me?
“Your Majesty, I’m here,” Brenna said behind me making me jump at the suddenness of her voice. I was so lost in my thoughts that I didn’t hear her walk up to me.
“Oh!” I chuckled awkwardly, “I didn’t hear you come. Did you say something? Are the girls alright?” I asked simultaneously hoping it wasn’t showing too much that I had been crying. Never in my wildest imaginations did I think I would be holed up in the restroom sobbing over Noah…
“No, Your Majesty!” Brenna shook her head, still giving me a curious look “You asked me to find out about Princess Jade that’s what I’m here to report. So, I met with one of her maids and I was told she’s usually not at home at this time since she’s such a party person but it’ll be better to look for her in the mornings or mid-morning. I delivered your message to the maid, she’ll inform the Princess when she returns and just to make sure she does that, I will check back and
“That won’t be necessary my dear,” I interrupted her with a smile “If you keep going back there, it will make us look desperate and that’s the last thing I want Princess Jade to think of us. Don’t worry, if I don’t see her tomorrow, I can always look for a way to talk to her. Also I paused and looked over my shoulders to confirm that no one was close to us “Shouldn’t we leave earlier today? Instead of the usual time, I have a hunch about something and the only way to confirm that I am not just imagining things is to change my schedule and see how they react,”.
“They?” she looked at me with confusion but I smiled wanly as memories of Reid coming out to save me that other night came to my mind and how I’ve been seeing a lot of strange yet constant faces tailing me now and again. Also, Reid was just all over me and I had to piece two and two together and the only thing that came to mind was how to lose all the people following me.
“Yes!” I nodded “Today’s work is done and thankfully we made a lot of progress. I’m just waiting for them to clear out some stuff inside so I can lock the door. Ask Faustina to tell the kitchen that we’ll be having dinner tonight. No one would be served in their room, including the King. If anyone tries to refute it, let them take it up with me. The dining hall is made for eating and not an artefact… henceforth everyone eats there,”.
“O…Okay, your Majesty!” Brenna replied looking at me strangely.
“And ask the Kitchen staff to prepare for an inspection tomorrow by me. Gosh! There are a lot of things that need to be changed around the Pack. The housekeeper, Garden Keeper… anyone in charge of anything around the Pack. I need to meet with them in that hall,” I said and pointed at an empty hall that was adjacent to Luna’s Office. I would like to see all of them by 7 am and they should be on time, I still have to go for the counselling session later on, so tardiness will not be tolerated. Inform my Beta too,”.
“Of course, your Majesty,” Brenna nodded again still giving me a quizzical look. I knew she was wondering what was going on but it was a trick. I intend to put everyone on their toes so that they can all concentrate on their duties and will not have time to gossip or say anything about me and the girls. It will also keep the attention away from me to do other important things.
Brenna excused herself to go do everything I told her. Just on cue, the people cleaning out my office finally came out and told me they were done. I nodded with appreciation and they left. I stood there for a long time, staring at nothing while also trying not to think of Noah and Brooke and also looking for the best way to advance my plan since an office had been granted to me.
Anytime or day now, I know Kragen would come around to remind me of our pact. We were slowly advancing further into everything but why doesn’t it taste like happiness? I felt empty and maybe… lonely. Yes, that was the word. All my life, I’ve never had the time to make friends with anyone and the one opportunity I thought I would finally have someone to talk to and share everything with was with my children but these days, I was too busy to mind them.
The only thing I look forward to now is to get my life back and hopefully, it’ll not be too late to make friends, go out on dates and be best friends with my children with of course, all the power in the world that a werewolf can possess.
I closed the door of my office securing it and turned to leave when I stopped dead in my tracks. It was night already and the person in front of me was so tall that he was standing directly in front of the outdoor light but I could make out the silhouette, any time, any day even in my sleep.
It was Grand Lycan Leonard Carrell – Noah’s father.
Trying to still my pounding heart, I drew myself to my full height and folded my hands in front of me trying to match his fierce look. “To what do I owe the pleasure?” I asked not bothering with his title.
“You want to pit my son against me, Selene he started softly, disguising the anger I could feel coursing from him. “My son has never gone against my wish since he was born. Even the tiniest of things, he would inform me but you have the guts to poison his heart against me, against, elders of this pack, do you know what you have done?”
“What!” I feigned surprise “I don’t know what you’re talking about, honestly and as for him approving Luna’s office thing, I didn’t think he would because just before all of you walked in, we were having a heated argument. Our marriage has not been at its best too but I am assuming you know that. So, It’s not my fault, I didn’t tell Noah anything, I promise. Besides, don’t you think you’re overreacting, I am his wife and you’re his father, he should listen to me more and do whatever I want,”.
Leonard’s eyes dimmed with fury as my words registered to him. I saw him raise his hands in my direction and I knew that he was going to strike me. But just as his hands neared my face, I reached out and held it, suspending it in the air, as I glared at him.
“Don’t you dare, Leonard, if you do not have a death wish!”
