Chapter 38
Lola’s POV
Lyla and Nathan were kissing.
I could not keep my surprise in and gasped loudly gaining their attention. They turned their attention to me and I felt like I was intruding on their moment so I hurriedly went back the way I came in.
“Lola”, Lyla shouted after me and I froze in place. I slowly turned around to look at her and saw her whispering harshly to Nathan who kept pouting at her.
Nathan is pouting? What a sight to see on the big bad Beta.
I giggled at the sight of Nathan pouting and acting like a kid which made them turn their attention to me. Lola glared at me and Nathan looked embarrassed so I looked away shyly.
Nathan eventually left, saying a greeting to me on his way out. “Good morning, Lola”, he said to me lightly. Someone is in a happy mood, I see.
“Good morning, Nathan”, I said softly, bowing to him as he left. He had barely gone far when Lyla pulled me by my arms and dragged me towards her room.
“Long time no see, stranger”, she said immediately we entered her room. She glared at me with her hands on her hips and I almost laughed because I knew she wasn’t even angry.
“Back at you, stranger. You knew I had no means of contacting you, you should have contacted me first”, I said to her, mirroring her pose and she looked genuinely shocked.
“Who are you and what have you done with Lola?” She asked in shock and I laughed, I actually laughed making her widen her eyes.
Yeah, I get it. It’s my first laugh since Mom and Dad passed.
“Oh my goddess”, she laughed as she rushed towards me to pull me into a hug. “I love this new you, Lola. This is so amazing “, she screamed in a high pitched voice and I had to block my ear a bit.
“Did you do something with your eyebrows?” She suddenly asked and I shook my head in negative. “Nope, I don’t even know what to do with them”, I replied her, confused.
“They look a shade lighter”, she pulled me towards her vanity mirror and made me face it, “see?” And she was right. While it wasn’t really noticeable, my brows were not completely black either.
It must be one of the changes I’ve been noticing recently, I made a mental note to ask Jasmine if she had seen any recent changes too. I contemplated telling Lyla about the changes I’ve been seeing recently and what happened with Adrian but decided against it. There were pressing matters to attend to.
“So you and Nathan, huh?” I turned to face her and she was already blushing. “What’s going on between you two, I thought you hated his guts?” I asked and she looked everywhere but at me and that was when it clicked.
“HE’S YOUR MATE!!!???” I screamed and she nodded at me before giggling. “Yeah, he’s my mate Lola. You can stop shouting now”, she laughed and I struggled to pick my jaw from the ground.
“I don’t understand, you hated him, no? How did you both get paired together? I know he liked you but you hated his guts “, I said as I sat beside her on the bed.
“It’s barely been a week since you’ve been here and you knew he liked me too? Was I the only one oblivious to that fact”, she asked and I nodded. It was so obvious Nathan liked her, even the blind could see that.
“I liked him too. I told him once when I was 14 and he was 21 and he told me he saw me as a younger sister and nothing more so I turned to anger to show him I did not care about him”, she said and I was shocked.
“Nobody would have believed that, you hid it so well”, I giggled, earning a giggle from her too.
“So, what party is going on today? I saw people making preparations for a party as I entered the pack house”, I asked as I got comfortable on the bed.
Lyla got up and did a curtsy before me, making me wonder what was going on with her.
