Chapter 25
Lola’s POV
I felt so hollow and empty. I thought I couldn’t be affected by whatever he says or does anymore, but was I wrong. I could not properly hear what was going on around me. All I heard was echoes and distant sounds.
“Lola, Lola, can you hear me?” I heard someone calling out to me distantly and tried to reply but I could not. It felt like my lungs were being crushed and I could not even cry out for help.
I suddenly took in a large gulp of air and came back to the present. Jace was kneeling beside me with a worried look on his face. I did not remember how I reached the floor nor how long I’d been out of it for, but the look on his face made me realze that it was bad.
“Lola, can you hear me now? Do you recognise me?” He asked worriedly and I laughed. I really laughed in that situation.
“Why do you look so worried, Jacey. I’m fine”, I smiled at him and he ran his hands through his hair in frustration. “You’re fine? Lola, you were numb and unmoving for over 5 minutes. I called you severally, you did not give me any response. You just sat still and unmoving. If I had not seen the rapid rise and fall of your chest, I’d have thought you were dead. Yet, you claim to be fine?” He was practically screaming at this point.
Ignoring the fact that he looked like he was about to explode, “I’ll like to be left alone”, I said to him. He looked at me like I was crazy and hesitated. “Please”, I pleaded to him and he nodded before he left me.
I picked myself off the floor and made my way back to Lyla’s room. I was not crying nor feeling anything, I just stared blankly at the door until she came in.
“Are you okay, Lola? What happened with Adrian? How did you know Jace? He was the one that came to get me”, she fired rapidly once she saw me sitting on the bed, staring blankly at her.
As if on que, the waterworks started when she asked me questions. I suddenly felt like my heart was being ripped apart. I cried out in pain while clutching at my chest, trying to relieve the pain I felt inside of me.
Lyla rushed towards me and held me in her arms while I cried out my eyes. She did not offer any words of comfort or tried to make me stop crying, which I was grateful for.
Jasmine wept silently in my head and I could not even comfort her. Adrian did not know what I went through at my former pack, he did not even know anything about me and he had the guts to say such words to me. Why does the moon goddess think it’s a good idea to pair me people that don’t think highly of me?
For about an hour, I cried and Lyla held me through all of it. I was grateful to at least have someone that could be there for me. I calmed down and she let me go I wriggled my body.
“Are you done crying over that dumbass that doesn’t know what he’s missing out on”, she asked once she let me go and I gasped.
“He’s your Alpha, you can’t speak about him like that”, i exclaimed and she rolled her eyes. “I can and I will. A man that thinks he can treat his mate like this can’t have my respect”, she said and I giggled a look little.
“I swear, you’re so crazy and fearless”. She flipped her hair over her shoulder with pride, “yeah, I know I am. He messed with the wrong person. Nobody fucks with my friend and gets away with it”, she flipped her hair dramatically again and we both laughed.
“Now, now. We need to forget all these boys dramas and problems and have a girl’s day out”, she said excitedly.
“I’m not sure about that, Lyla. I don’t think I want to be around pack members after what happened in the pack house today.
The story would have spread all over the pack”, I said sadly.
“That’s why we’re leaving the pack lands, durhhhh. I doubt you’ve ever been to the human town. They have such big malls and very very amazing structures and restaurants. It’s so different from our pack. You’re going to love it”, she said excitedly. I was about to say something when she interrupted me.
