Chapter 50: Kristopher’s brow furrowed as he noticed Cathy’s troubled expression, prompting him to defend her. “Even if Cathy hasn’t helped me find new medication, it’s none of your business.”’ Belinda smirked. “Unless you divorce me, your matters will most certainly be my concern, since I’m still your wife.”’ She marched toward the door, adding, “It’s still not too late. Let’s head to court right now.”’ Kristopher stood frozen, watching her slim figure retreat. His expression deepened into a frown. He couldn’t pinpoint exactly when it had started, but now it seemed that every conversation with her spiraled into discussions of divorce. It felt as if staying married to him had become unbearable torture for her. Could she truly despise him so deeply? “Kristopher.”’ His gaze snapped to Cathy, who stood by, her lips pressed tightly together as she tentatively reached for his arm. “You and Belinda”¦ please, resolve this soon.”’ Cathy’s voice was soft, laced with urgency””a hint of it catching Belinda’s attention as she turned sharply. “Aren’t you coming along?”’ Annoyed by the ongoing drama, Anthony waved dismissively. “Just divorce her already and let Belinda go.”’ But Kristopher’s frown deepened, his feet rooted to the spot. “I’m not divorcing you.”’ The room fell into an uneasy silence. Anthony slammed his hand on the table. “You brat! You cheated on Belinda, and now you refuse to divorce? What the hell do you really want?”’ Feel the thrill at Kristopher crossed his legs gracefully and settled into the sofa, his expression unflustered. “Both last night and today, Belinda’s demand for a divorce stems from her issues with Cathy. If I agree to a divorce now, everyone will label Cathy as the homewrecker who destroyed our marriage.”’ He turned his penetrating gaze toward Belinda. “I can’t allow Cathy to be tarnished with that reputation.”’ Kristopher’s words took Belinda by surprise. Since Belinda had first brought up the divorce, Kristopher had been dodging and rejecting her proposals. She had pondered over his reluctance””perhaps he was simply accustomed to her presence and loathed the thought of parting ways. Or maybe, he was averse to having his male authority undermined. However, the idea that his refusal was driven by a desire to protect Cathy had never crossed her mind. Kristopher didn’t want the world to view Cathy as a homewrecker, which explained his persistent rejections. His feelings for Cathy were genuine. Anthony, seated at the head of the table, let out a derisive laugh. “Oh, so now you’re worried about Miss Miller being branded a homewrecker?”’ He shook his head. “If you were truly concerned, you wouldn’t have flaunted your affair by picking her up from the airport and parading her around on shopping sprees. You ignored the repercussions then, but now, with Belinda seeking a divorce, you suddenly care?”’ Kristopher’s eyes narrowed, though he remained silent. “Anthony, Kristopher didn’t mean it that way,”’ Cathy began hesitantly, her voice laced with caution. She bit her lip nervously, pulling a piece of paper from her pocket and handing it to Anthony. “This is the divorce agreement Belinda presented last night. It claims that I’m the reason for their marital issues. I believe Kristopher means he doesn’t want my name mentioned in their divorce papers”¦”’ “Cathy.”’ Kristopher’s voice cut in sharply, his pupils shrinking in dismay. “Why do you have that?”’ After escorting Cathy to the hospital the previous evening, Kristopher had returned to the banquet venue to retrieve the divorce document that Belinda had prepared. He, along with a few staff members, had searched extensively, but to no avail. The staff had speculated that the document was likely discarded by the cleaners amidst the chaos of the night. Yet here it was, in Cathy’s hands. What was her reason for holding onto it? Cathy stammered, her gaze averted as she nervously fiddled with the edge of the paper. “I noticed Belinda had already signed it. I was worried it might fall into the wrong hands, so I decided to keep it safe”¦”’ Anthony scoffed as he glanced over the divorce papers. “You clearly have ulterior motives.”’ He set the papers aside and fixed Belinda with a stern gaze. “Would you prefer to revise this yourself, or do you need my assistance?”’ The concern in his eyes caused a knot to form in Belinda’s throat. “I’ll handle it myself. Thank you, Anthony.”’ “For what are you thanking me?”’ Anthony exhaled deeply. “It saddens me that I can no longer call you my granddaughter-in-law.”’ He motioned for Stanley to assist him, and together they left the room. “I’ll amend the divorce agreement and deliver it to your office later,”’ Belinda stated firmly, shooting Kristopher an icy glare. “I trust you won’t pull any stunts this time.”’ With those words, she quickly turned and exited. “Wait!”’ As she crossed the threshold, Maggie’s mocking voice followed her. “Now that you’re divorcing my brother, shouldn’t we address something else?”’ Belinda paused and turned to face Maggie, raising an eyebrow. “And what might that be?”’ “You hurt Cathy last night; she was even sent to the hospital. You owe her an apology,”’ Maggie declared….
