Chapter 19: “Kristopher!”’ Belinda cried out, a hint of desperation in her voice. As he reached to remove her underwear, she could no longer contain herself. “Do you remember that I just had a miscarriage ten days ago? If you want to kill me, just do it directly. There’s no need to degrade me like this!”’ Her words nearly erupted into a scream. She had once thought of Kristopher as a decent and responsible husband, despite his lack of affection. But now, she realized that he lacked not only love but also respect and care for her as his wife. His indifference was clear. He showed no concern for her well-being or dignity, especially now as he overpowered her, driven by his disregard and the contentious divorce she insisted on. Her voice, tinged with tears, caused Kristopher to halt his forceful embrace. His large hand, which had been around her waist, froze. He looked down into her angry, tear-filled eyes. The burning desire in his gaze extinguished immediately. After a tense silence, he frowned and muttered, “I’m sorry.”’ “You don’t need to apologize to me,”’ Belinda retorted, pushing him away and straightening her clothes. Fighting back tears, she declared, “Just sign the divorce papers. This isn’t a tantrum, and I’m not vying for your attention against Miss Miller.”’ She sniffed, took a tissue from the side, and dabbed at her tears. “You were right from the start. I never consulted you when we got married. It was just my own fantasy. Now that Miss Miller has returned, I’m setting us both free.”’ Kristopher watched the chill in her gaze, his eyebrows knitting together as he pulled a cigarette from his pocket. Just as he was about to light it, Belinda’s indifferent words flashed through his mind, and he reluctantly put it back. He retreated a step and slumped onto the couch, his eyes shadowed with barely noticeable weariness. “I asked for a divorce before, and you said no. I didn’t want a divorce before because I had feelings for you”¦”’ “And now?”’ Kristopher’s lips curled into a sardonic smile. “You don’t have feelings for me anymore?”’ “That doesn’t matter anymore,”’ she stated firmly. “What does matter is that I want a divorce now.”’ Kristopher’s frown deepened at the mention of divorce once again. “We can discuss the divorce later,”’ he said, leaning back against the sofa with relaxed grace. “Do you remember what’s happening in three days?”’ Belinda hesitated for a moment before a sudden realization hit her. “Is it your grandfather’s birthday?”’ Kristopher scoffed. “I thought you’d completely forgotten. He remembered your fondness for sweet pastries. He even sent some over today and instructed me to bring you to his birthday celebration. Yet here you are, attempting to sever ties with the Cox family by any means necessary.”’ Taking a deep breath, Belinda stowed her makeup mirror and foundation, pulling out her phone to mark the date three days from now. “I’ll be at his birthday.”’ Her lapse was perhaps due to the advanced stage of cancer that had recently deteriorated, compounded by her recent anxieties. She had nearly forgotten Anthony’s birthday. Anthony, the kindest soul in the entire Cox family, had always treated her like his own granddaughter. She wouldn’t dream of missing his birthday, especially since she had only three months left to live. This celebration might very well be the last birthday of Anthony’s she could attend. “You really should make it this time.”’ Kristopher rose, approached Belinda, and took her phone from her hands. With precise movements, he dialed his number into it. Once the call connected, he handed it back to her. “Replacing your contact details when you’re still unable to break away from the Cox family is hardly mature.”’ With those words, he strode towards the door. However, as he swung the door open, he was met by the young man who had earlier been speaking with Belinda on stage. Upon seeing Kristopher at the door, the young man paused momentarily before sidestepping him and entering the private room.
