Third Person’s POV
Adelaide said, “Caldwell, we have no intention of doing so. Now it’s up to Eugene to stall, and we’ll promptly send someone to Fairfax County to investigate this so–called act of salvation. If there’s no such thing, Poly can leave Madison’s mansion with her head held high, and the Blackthorn Pack will protect her.”
After the Moon Newborn Festival, Madison’s days in the capital would be numbered.
Since Poly regarded Madison as her savior, the investigation had to be swift.
Otherwise, if Madison fell from power and forced Poly into risky actions, Poly, in her gratitude for the supposed rescue, would likely comply.
Although Paisley hinted that the rescue might be a hoax, without concrete evidence, and given Poly’s loyal nature, she might still choose to repay the supposed kindness despite her doubts.
“I need someone to handle this,” Adelaide said.
Craig, who had just woken up, lounged in the doorway with a lazy stretch and said, “Summon Prunella. She’s the fastest and most thorough at investigations.”
Paisley immediately chimed in, “I’ll contact Wendy. Have her send a message to the Cloudwing Pack and leverage Prunella’s resources there. It’s the quickest way.”
By the time Lance returned in the evening, everything was set in motion.
Learning that Caldwell had found his sister, Lance brought wine to celebrate with him.
Caldwell, who had cried in front of Luna Adelaide, couldn’t hold back in Lance’s presence either.
After several drinks, clutching Lance’s hand through tearful sobs, Caldwell said, “You can’t imagine how hard these years have been. Every night I thought if I ever caught that rogue, I’d torture him to death.”
“I know, I know,” Lance said, gripping his shoulder. “The hard times are over. Things will get better.”
Caldwell wept uncontrollably. “Eighteen years, Lance. Eighteen years not knowing if she was dead or alive, imagining the tortures she might have endured, the bullying she faced. These imaginings grew more terrifying over time. Every thought of her felt like a thousand needles piercing my heart.”
Lance understood this agony. Death might bring grief for a year or two, with occasional heartache, but it didn’t torment like this .
“Here, have another drink. Let’s sleep it off,” Lance said, pouring another glass. “I’ll drink with you.”
Caldwell waved him off, Already/half–drunk, his mind in a fog and his emotions a mix of joy and sorrow, he knew he still had duties to attend to.
“No. Tomorrow the leaders from various posts will arrive. I need to make arrangements. Autumn’s here , and with it comes more tasks. Luna Adelaide has her strategies to implement, and I can’t afford to delay .

Hunt emerged from the basement cell of Madison’s mansion, his steps heavy as he made his way to the lounge where Madison awaited.
After his encounter with Adelaide and learning of their plan, he had the chance to visit the basement cell, bringing Aireanna some food and clothes, and taking her out to the backyard for a while.
He shared the plan with Madison, having already given up on Ramona.
He had no choice but to comply.
Initially, he had no choice. Now, he was deeply ensnared.
The Spectrehowl Pack and Madison were inextricably linked. Obedience was his only option–there’s simply no other way.
Upon entering the lounge, Madison dismissed everyone else and said indifferently, “Take a seat.”
Hunt sat down and said, “Thank you.”
Madison sipped her coffee slowly, and the two sat in silence.
“You’ve seen her, I suppose. That must bring you peace,” Madison said, blowing on her coffee.
“Thank you for the medicine,” Hunt replied.
Madison glanced at him. Though she was aware of certain truths, she sometimes couldn’t resist the urge to unmask this hypocritical man.
She sneered, “Oh? So concerned about Aireanna, are we? Don’t put on airs. It’s merely a lie to control your daughters.”
Hunt remained silent, knowing that in the face of Madison’s sarcasm, silence was the best response.
“You should try to meet with Adelaide more often and extract as much information from her as possible. Also, share our plans for October fifteenth with her. Ideally, find out every detail of their strategy.”
“Very well. I’ll have Ramona arrange a meeting,” Hunt said.
“As for the mating between Astria and Eugene, remind your mother to hurry. We can’t delay any longer.”
Hunt hesitated before saying, “I don’t think Eugene will take a shine to Asa. She’s like a country girl and can never become a noble lady. Judging by her manners, she lacks any noble demeanor.”
Madison sneered. She saw right through Hunt’s thoughts and said, “She was trained by Rosa and has stayed in Madison’s mansion for so long without exposure to the outside world. Her country ways have long faded. If her manners aren’t considered proper, then there’s no one in this world who is.”
