Chapter 234
Selene POV
My hand flew to Noah’s arms as I tried not to make a sound.
“Thank you for this wonderful opportunity given to me by the board members to serve my Alma mater. I am a great beneficiary of the splendid education here and trust me when I say this is the best place a child can ever be. So, I’m so grateful,” Princess Jade spoke first.
The crowd clapped and had to quieten for Brooke to speak.
She was dressed differently from what I was used to. For the first time since I met her, she wore a dress that covered every inch of her body. Gone was her bold, suggestive red lips or cleavage spewing out her breast. Rather, she was wearing a floor-length full skirt and a long-sleeved matching blouse.
“What is the meaning of this, Noah?” I recovered long enough to whisper to my husband “When I asked the Grand Lycan to fire the former Principal, I didn’t tell him to bring these two? What do they know about running a school? And wasn’t Brooke banished? How dare she show her face here?”
“This is surprising to me darling,” Noah sighed but as soon as the event is over, I’ll try to find out from the Grand Lycan about this. Be rest assured, everything will be settled as soon as possible, okay?”
Not wanting to draw attention to myself or hint that their presence here bothered me, I decided to stay put. I spent the next hour, trying to understand what was going on. I couldn’t stop thinking about Princess Jade and Brooke, especially Brooke. Was she here on a revenge mission?
The women had not mentioned what roles they would be taking, so I didn’t know which of them would be in the elementary section of the school. I sat there quietly, trying to understand if this was an oversight by the Grand Lycan or if this was his way to get back at me. I couldn’t help but feel threatened.
Life has been going so well for me, I couldn’t afford any extra drama now. By the end of the performance, I and Noah had to hold on for the rest of the guests to come to greet us. It was customary. As we stood making small talks with people that came forward, my eyes caught Brooke and Jade mingling with the crowd too.
Suddenly, Brooke looked over to where I was and our eyes met and held. At first, she didn’t do anything but slowly, her lips parted until a smug smile appeared on her lips. She leaned forward and whispered something to Princess Jade before both of them started to where I and Noah were standing.
As they came close, my heart pounded faster, the room seemed as though it was spinning, I reached out to Noah and grabbed a handful of his shirt making him pause and turn worried eyes at me. He must have seen the sweat on my brows because he leaned closer to me and murmured.
“Are you alright dear? Is it the baby? Do you need to step outside for a few minutes?” ɪꜰ ʏᴏᴜ ᴡᴀɴᴛ ᴛᴏ ʀᴇᴀᴅ ᴍᴏʀᴇ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs, ᴘʟᴇᴀsᴇ ᴠɪsɪᴛ
“No!” I shook my head managing a small smile “I’m fine. I just felt faint for a few seconds but I’m better now. I think Brooke and Princess Jade are walking towards us,”.
I saw his face search mine for a moment before he lifted both of my hands and kissed them, staring at me gently. “The only person I see is Princess Jade. Brooke will not be allowed to come within an inch of where we are standing okay? You shouldn’t bother yourself too much and hey, nothing will happen. I’m here, okay?”
I nodded feeling reassured by his words. He clasped my hands firmly in his and waited for Brooke and Princess Jade. Almost close to where we were, Beta Reid and a handful of soldiers approached Brooke and whispered something to her. There was a relaxed smile on her face and our gaze met again before she was escorted outside.
Princess Jade was perplexed for a few minutes and stood there watching until she came to where we were, eyes drawn in accusation as her gaze flickered to me for a second before they rested on Noah.
“Are you serious right now, Noah?” she demanded as soon as she came closer “When Brook told me you will not meet her I thought it was just her exaggerating. What’s the reason? She was pardoned and deserves to be in this pack as any other person. You cannot exercise
“Jade!” Noah growled, his eyes flashing with annoyance “Do you want to be asked to leave my presence and never show up in my face again? How dare you tell me how to run my affairs? Do you have a death wish?”
“I was just concerned over a clear case of bullying orchestrated because of the feelings of your Luna,” she threw me a glare “You cannot run the kingdom like that. Ask that Brooke is asked back into the hall. This event was thrown for both of us and I will not allow her to be bullied in any way,”.
“Brooke was found guilty and banished by the laws of the land. She’s supposed to be dead just so you know because of how grave her offence was but she was banished instead. How dare she show up here in my presence when I’ve not commanded it? When I did not pardon her? Don’t make me punish you alongside her,”.
Jade unable to say anything pouted and moved away, calling out to someone in the hall. Besides me, Noah was trembling with fury, so I stayed quiet waiting for him to get a lid on his emotions. He met my gaze again, placing a quiet kiss on my lips as he whispered.
“Don’t worry, I’ll get to the root cause of this. Okay?”
A commotion at the door made me look away from Noah towards the direction and I felt my breath hitch. Entering the hall was the Grand Lycan behind him was his daughter Nora and Brooke walking majestically.
My nemesis was back.
