That last conspiracy theory exploded online.
Within minutes, it shot to the top of the trending page–ironically dragging the Global Hotel incident back into the spotlight as well.
Now, both were on the trending page.
But one thing became clear–Alice and Risa were just close friends.
People had taken their friendship and twisted it for drama.
After scrubbing her online tracks clean, Alice shut down the computer.
She then turned around to find Eric standing at the doorway.
Wait … the staff had definitely closed that door earlier .
When had he come in ?
He hadn’t made a sound .
He’s like a ghost .
Alice flexed her fingers and raised a brow. “Mr. Eric, you could at least say something when you show up.”
Looking at his blank expression, she couldn’t help but tease, “So? Was it good?”
Eric opened his mouth, then shut it again.

He leaned casually against the doorframe. “Didn’t you say this was a place to ‘blow off some steam“?”
“Didn’t you?” Alice asked with a smirk.
Eric was at a loss for words.
While getting scrubbed, he had genuinely begun questioning his life choices.
After all, this was his first time experiencing anything like it.
But once it was over, his whole body felt unbelievably light.
For the first time in ages, he’d slept soundly.
That was something he usually struggled with.
Which was why he came down so late.
By the time he went out, a staff member had already filled him in on Alice’s whereabouts, so he went straight to find her.
He had meant to knock.
However, something about that back scrub must’ve softened him–or at least brought him closer to Alice in some inexplicable way.
The door had been slightly ajar.
He pushed it gently and saw her working intently.
“Did you solve your issue?” he asked.
He hadn’t checked his phone yet, but just from Alice’s demeanor, she clearly had.
Alice got up and walked over.
“Well, Mr. Eric, I see you’re all relaxed now. Is that why you’re suddenly interested in my business?”
“Not necessarily.”
“Is that so?”
Eric’s gaze dropped to her slightly flushed cheeks, probably from the warmth of the room.
His throat tightened involuntarily.
He turned away, but his voice was soft.
“I mean–busy or not, I care about you either way.”

Alice blinked in surprise.
“Mr. Eric?”
“Hmm?”
“Did you enroll in a communication skills crash course or something?”
Eric looked confused.
Alice chuckled at her own joke.
“I don’t know, you just seem different today. A lot chattier.”
Eric didn’t say anything while Alice checked the time.
“It’s still early. Let’s go to the old mansion.”
It was just past 8 p.m.–still early by her standards.
The people living in the old mansion would’ve finished dinner by now. Eric knew immediately that she was planning to stir up trouble again.
Instinctively, he pulled out his phone and checked the latest updates.
Now he understood.
“Who are you suspecting?” he asked.
Alice walked ahead, her tone casual.
“Who else? That sweet stepmother of yours is egging on your lovely grandmother.”
Eric was speechless.
That sounds like a personal attack .
“Get in the car,” he said.
He took the driver’s seat this time and had her sit up front.
Alice leaned back in her seat and closed her eyes.
Back at the old mansion, Irene was on the verge of a heart attack.
She had risked everything to leak that gossip.
Not only did it fail to bring Alice down, but it dragged her into the spotlight instead.
“Mrs. Nolan, Mrs. Ruby is here,” a maid said while knocking on the door gently.
“Would you like to see her?”
