“Alright, enough crying. Go wash your face,” Gary said with a tired sigh.
His heart felt heavy just thinking about everything. He didn’t have the energy to keep comforting her.

Linda didn’t want to stick around and be lectured anymore, either. She nodded quickly and went upstairs.
The moment she left, Charlie lit a cigarette with a deep, drawn–out sigh.
“Gary, the company might’ve scraped together some funding earlier, but now we’re out of cash. If nothing comes in by the end of the month, I’m afraid we won’t be able to hold on.”
Spencer Group was a massive corporation with tens of thousands of employees.
They couldn’t just declare bankruptcy out of the blue–it would trigger a delisting, multiple investigations, and total collapse.
It’d be a living nightmare.
They wouldn’t be able to move forward with projects, and they’d still have to pay wages.
Charlie refused to let it get that far.
Gary turned to Scott.
“Scott, I heard there’s a racing tournament coming up. The prize money is 50 million.”
Scott had come home today to comfort Linda.
Now that she was fine, he tucked his phone away.
“Yeah, I was just about to head back into training.”
Gary grabbed his arm before he could leave.
“Scott, the Spencers are counting on you this time. That prize money means everything right
now.”

Charlie added, “It’s going to be broadcast worldwide. If you win, not only would we get the money, but major car brands might start fighting to sign you.”
In other words, saving the family wasn’t the only upside; this could also launch Scott’s career.
“Don’t worry, Charlie,” Scott grinned.
“I’m not just thinking about the race–I’m hoping this will be my chance to become Quantum’s student. So don’t try to talk me out of it.”
Gary smiled. “I used to worry that racing was too dangerous. I didn’t want you getting hurt.
“But now, seeing how serious you are, I don’t want to hold you back anymore.
“After the race, go chase your dream. Charlie and I will handle things at home.”
Scott’s eyes lit up. “Thanks, Gary.”
“Now go get some rest. Give it everything you’ve got tomorrow.”
“Got it.”
Scott took this race very seriously–he wasn’t about to waste precious sleep.
After he left , Gary lit another cigarette, looking visibly troubled.
Charlie caught on immediately.

Gary didn’t try to hide it. He nodded openly.

“I never thought about it before, but if I had spent twenty–plus years suffering outside the family, I’d probably hold a grudge, too.”
Charlie rubbed his temples. “And Linda, who was treated like royalty for over two decades, suddenly found out she’s from the countryside. You don’t think she’s resentful?”
Gary didn’t argue.
Between the two of them, if he was honest, he still felt more protective of Linda.
In the middle of the night, Alice was jolted awake by a rustling noise.
She stared at the ceiling, annoyed.

She got up with a groan and saw Eric walking out of the room.
“Hey-” she called, but the door shut firmly in her face before she could finish.
Darkness returned. Silence.
She sat on the bed for a few seconds, then sighed, got up, and followed.
In the living room, Eric was talking with Daniel, who was still giving a report.
As she got closer, their voices became clearer.
“Mr. Eric, we could buy the car back,” Daniel was saying.
-Eric’s tone was cold. “No.”
Daniel was practically pleading. “Mr. Eric, I know that car means a lot to you.
“But this is a racing tournament. The Azure Circuit is one of the most dangerous tracks in the world.”
Eric nodded. “I know.”
Daniel doubled down. “Mr. Eric, your body’s still too weak. Racing requires insane stamina and strength. If you go out there now, all of Mrs. Nolan’s hard work for you will be wasted.”
He paused, then remembered the old mansion.
